After Justice Minister now Foreign Minister resigns

Published

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Villy Søvndal of the Socialist People’s Party (SF), a junior partner in the coalition government has announced his resignation. The move comes after he underwent surgery for a blood clot on his heart. Although he was expected to return to work on 20th December he has decided that the job of foreign minister is too demanding; he also intends to stand down as a member of parliament.

Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, upon her return from taking selfies at the memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela, is expected to announce a Cabinet reshuffle today or tomorrow. The prime minister also has to replace Justice Minister Morten Bødskov of the Social Democratic Party (S) after he resigned having admitted to trying to deceive parliament.
