ALP and PM Kevin Rudd slip in latest opinion poll

A Newspoll opinion poll published on the Radio Australia website this morning gives opposition leader Tony Abbott a lead as the preferred prime minister, for the first time.

Tony Abbott leads Prime Minister Kevin Rudd by 43% to 41% as the preferred prime minister.

In the party stakes Rudd’s Australian Labor Party (ALP) has slumped to 33% in the primary vote and trails the Coalition of Tony Abbott by 46% to 56% in the two-party preferred vote.

The general election polling day is next Saturday, 7th September.
