Berlin votes today

Berlin state goes to the polls today to vote for the 141 members of the Abgeordnetenhaus von Berlin or House of Deputies of Berlin.

Currently the Abgeordnetenhaus is run by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who hold 58 seats and The Left (Die Linke) who have 23 seats. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Chancellor Angela Merkel have 37 seats and 21.3% of the vote.

Recent opinion polls put the SPD on 32% (30.8% in 2006), the CDU on 19% (21.3% in 2006) and The Left on 15% (13.3%). The greens who have been doing well in early state elections this year were on 13.1% in 2006 and the latest poll puts them on 25%.
