BN wins by elections

Published

The ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) has won the Merlimau and Kerdau state by elections with increased majorities.

The BN coalition has won eight of the 16 by-elections since the 2008 general election including the last five with the most recent victories. The three previous wins include Bagan Pinang, Batang Ai and Tenang.

In the 2008 general election BN dropped from 198 to 140 seats (-58 seats) in the lower chamber, the House of Representatives or Dewan Rakyat. The recent successes would suggest that they are starting to win back the support of the people.
