Coalition attempts fail

Published

The top three political parties in the new Greek parliament have all failed to form a coalition government. Evangelos Venizelos, the leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) failed in his bid to form a government yesterday after the leaders of the two larger parties had also failed.

President Karolos Papoulias will hold a meeting today with all party leaders to see if a coalition can be formed. If he fails then it will mean a fresh general election will be called.
