Concern that poll won’t be free and fair

Published

Voice of America (VOI) reports that several senior analysts have expressed concern that the Presidential and general election to take place this Sunday will be marred by violence and will not be free and fair.

Concerns have been expressed about the inability of opposition candidates to travel freely across the country and the shortness of the campaign (two weeks) which has helped President Bozize who is seeking re-election.

Approximately 1.8m voters will be eligible to vote in the election, although a low turnout is expected because most people have little confidence in the outcome of the poll.
