Da Costa wins

The 74 year old former president of this island group in the Gulf of Guinea off the West African coast, Manuel Pinto da Costa, has won the second round runoff of the presidential election with 52.88% of the vote.

The runner up, former speaker of the parliament Evaristo received 47.1% of the vote

Da Costa was president from 1975 until 1991during which he ran a one party socialist state.
