De la Sota wins Cordoba

Published

Córdoba province has been won by José Manuel de la Sota with 42.41% of the vote. Although he describes himself as a Justicialist Party candidate standing on a local ticket he also says that he has no relationship with the national government. No overtly Kirchnerite candidate stood in the election.

Luis Juez of the Civic Front Alliance came second with 29.72% of the vote and Oscar Aguad of the Radical Civic Union (UCR) came third with 22.85% of the vote.

The analysts are saying that the significance of the election is that the anti-Kirchner vote is more than 50% of the vote in Córdoba province. In the last two or three provincial elections the Kirchner candidates have not been doing as well as might have been expected. Nevertheless the incumbent president is still well ahead in the polls.

The next important contest in the pre-presidential ballots is in Tucumán Province, in the north of the country, on 28th August.
