Didier Burkhalter voted President for 2014

Didier Burkhalter of FDP.The Liberals, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of Switzerland has been elected to be next years’ President of the country.

The election in which the Foreign Minister received 183 out of 222 votes cast was not a surprise. The Presidency works on a seven year rotation covering the seven-person Cabinet with each person serving one year in the role after they have served one year as Vice-President.

Didier Burkhalter will take over from the current President and Minister of Defence, Ueli Maurer, on 1st January 2014.
