Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines announced on Saturday night that the country would hold its ninth general election on 9th December 2015.

In the 2010 general election the prime minister’s centre-left Unity Labour Party (ULP) won eight of the 15 seats in the House of Assembly. The centrist New Democratic Party (NDP) won seven seats. The other party contesting, the left-wing Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Green Party (SVG) failed to take any seats.
