Election date set


Following the recent decision to combine the presidential and legislative elections, the authorities have agreed upon a date for the two combined elections.  The date announced by the Central Election Commission is 14th January 2012.

Ma Ying-jeou the current president is expected to stand once more for the Kuomintang Party.  AS yet there is no candidate for the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party.  The election are likely to test public opinion on the approach teken by the current government to forge closer links with China.
