Election goes smoothly

The general election in Chad went ahead smoothly today (Sunday 13th February 2011)  according to EU observers.

The general election will allow the 4.8 million Chadians to vote between President Idriss Deby’s Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) and an umbrella group of opposition parties calling itself the Coordination of Political Parties for the Defence of the Constitution (CPDC) which includes the Federation, Action for the Republic (FAR), Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and the Union for Renewal and Democracy (URD).

The presidential election will follow on 8th May 2011.
