Published

Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham dissolved parliament yesterday evening and declared a general election for 7th May.

The prime minister’s party, the Free National Movement (FNM) will be looking to secure a second consecutive term in office. In 2007 they won unexpectedly by taking 23 of the 41 seats in the House of Assembly.

The opposition Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) led by Perry Christie will be hoping to win back control of government. In 2007 they took 18 of the 41 seats, having suffered from the Anna Nicole Smith scandal.

Parliament will reconvene on 23rd May.
