Election postponed until Monday

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega has been forced to announce a postponement of the general election until Monday (4th April 2011).

The election which was due to be held today (2nd April 2011) and was in full swing in some areas, has been postponed because vital materials had not arrived in some polling booths.  The key areas concerned are three states in the Niger delta area, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom, as well as Plateau in the middle region and Borno in the far north east.
