Elections announced for September

President Rupiah Bwezani Banda has set elections for Presidential, National Assembly, and local councils for Tuesday 20th September. Candidates for all three sets of elections have until Friday 12th August to register their nominations.

The last elections for presidential and National Assembly were held on 28th September 2008 which the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) won. Following the death of President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa on 19th August 2008, fresh presidential elections were held in which the MMD candidate, Rupiah Bwezani Banda, won with 40.09% of the vote.
