Elections are taking place today for 20 of the 40 seats in the Federal National Council.

A total of 450 candidates are contesting the election for what are the second set of elections in the Emirates, the first was in 2006 when the electorate was just over 6,000.

In this election the electorate has been widened and around 130,000 voters will be eligible to vote across 23 polling stations from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
