EPRDF wins general election again

As expected the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has overwhelmingly won the general election which took place on 24th May. The EPRDF has ruled Ethiopia since 1991.

Preliminary results from the National Electoral Board state that the four constituent parties of the EPRDF have won 408 of the 547 seats in the House of People’s Representatives. A further five regional parties closely associated with the EPRDF have picked up a further 29 seats with some results still to be announced.

So far no opposition parties have won seats with just 110 seats left to announce. Final results will be announced on 22nd June.
