Exit poll results

Published

Exit poll results just released give the political parties in yesterday’s general election the following results for first preference votes:

Fine Gael 36.1%
Labour 20.5%
Independent 15.5%
Fianna Fáil 15.1%
Sinn Féin 10.1%
Greens 2.7%

If the poll is correct, and previous exit polls in Ireland have been very close, then this will make Fine Gael the largest party but without an overall majority. This poll does view only first preferences and in close contests the second preference plays an important role.

Final results are expected later today (26th February 2011).
