The man who led a military coup d’état in 2006, Rear-Admiral Frank Bainimarama and his FijiFirst party have been elected in elections which took place last Wednesday.

Although not all votes have been counted the former junta leader declared victory today saying “I am the Prime Minister of all Fijians, I am the Prime Minister for all Fijians of all Fijians for All Fijians.”

FijiFirst is reported to have taken 59.10% of the vote and 32 of the 50 seats in the new parliament. The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) came second with 28.30% and 15 seats whilst the National Federation Party (NFP) was the only other party to cross the threshold for representation, taking 5.4% and three seats.
