Further demands for poll delay

Published

Opposition parties and local NGOs have requested that there should be a further delay to the poll which was due to take place this Sunday 13th March 2011.

The poll has been delayed twice because of problems with registering all voters.  The problem appears to have continued this week with the electoral commission extending registration hours possibly into Saturday, eve of poll.

At least one prominent NGO has said that it will take two weeks to sort out all the requests with as many as one million voters trying to get registered.  There is no indication that there will be any further delay granted by the government.
