General election today

A general election for the 21 seats in the Dominica House of Assembly is being held today after Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit called a snap election on 5th November.

The ruling social democratic Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won 18 of the parliament’s 21 seats in the December 2009 general election. The centrist United Workers’ Party (UWP) won the remaining three seats.

The 72,484 registered voters will vote at 250 polling stations between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time and will be able to choose from 44 candidates. The DLP is expected to win a majority.
