Goodluck Jonathan looks unassailable

Published

Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan looks to have comfortably won the presidential election which took place on Saturday (16th April 2011).

At the time of writing Jonathan had won 19 of 24 states for which full results had been announced. In the other five states he has taken more than 25% of the vote in a further three. He has fallen below the threshold in two states, Kano and Bauchi both of which are in the North of the country.

It looks as though he will comfortably get 25% of the vote in two thirds of the 36 states as required and already has double the votes of any of the other candidates. His closest rival is Muhammadu Buhari who has done well in the North and North East of the country.
