Montenegro’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) led by Milo Đukanović, in coalition with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and under the banner ‘For a European Montenegro’, is expected to win around half the seats in today’s general election.

The election will see 13 political parties and alliances contest the 81 seats in the parliament or Skupština Crne Gore. There is one nationwide constituency of 76 seats and a further special constituency of five seats for the Albanian community.

There are 514,055 eligible voters in the election who will be voting between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

The main opposition Democratic Front comprising the New Serbian Democracy (NOVA) and Movement for Changes (PzP) is expected to get around 20% of the vote. Other parties expected to get over the 3% threshold for representation are the Socialist People’s Party (SNP) and Positive Montenegro which is a new party formed only in May this year.
