Indirect elections for Senate today

Members of the lower house or National Assembly of Pakistan along with provincial councils will vote for 54 senators today.

Half of the 104 seat Senate or upper house are elected every three years, meaning that each Senator serves for six years. Half of the Senators end their term of office on 12th March hence the elections.

Nine members of the Senate have been returned unopposed, with the ruling Pakistan People’s Party expected to make gains in the election.
