INEC keeps original poll dates

Published

The Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria has decided to keep the dates for elections this year as originally announced.

Earlier opposition parties had managed to get a Federal Court ruling that only the INEC could set dates and not the National Assembly. After consideration INEC has kept to the original dates saying that it is too late in the process to change them now.

The dates are:

2nd April – parliamentary
9th April – presidential
16th April – governors and state legislators in the 36 states.
