Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowan has confirmed that the general election in Ireland will take place on 25th February 2011.

The election which is a year early has come after increasing pressure for the government to call an election following an enforced financial bailout last year by the EU and IMF. The election will be fought across 43 constituencies and will elect 166 members to the Irish Parliament, the Dáil.
