King asks Abdelilah Benkirane to form a government

Published

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has asked Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) and current Prime Minister, Abdelilah Benkirane, to form a government. The constitution requires that the King asks the leader of the party with the most seats after a general election to form a government.

The PJD emerged as the largest party with an increased number of seats in the 395 seat Assembly of Representatives of Morocco in last Friday’s general election.
