Kurdish parties threaten to boycott election

The Kurdish Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) has threatened to boycott the 12th June general election after 12 BDP backed candidates were barred from standing.

The High Elections Board said that the 12 had convictions against them which prevented them from standing. The convictions are said to be related to anti terrorism laws which forbid association with certain Kurdish groups. One of those banned is BDP co-leader Gultan Kisanak and another is a Nobel peace prize nominee, Layla Zana. Gultan Kisanak is currently a member of parliament.
