Left wing alliance wins

The left wing alliance, Kukuriku (Cock-a-doodle-doo) or Alliance for Change, centred on Zoran Milanović’s Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP) and including the Croatian People’s Party – Liberal Democrats (HNS), Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS-DDI) and Croatian Party of Pensioners (HSU) has won the general election.

The Kukuriku took around 78 seats with 70% of the votes counted for the 151 seat Hrvatski Sabor or Parliament of Croatia.

The incumbent Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor took 48 seats and will go into opposition.
