Leung Chun-ying elected new Hong Kong Chief Executive

The Electoral Committee (EC) of Hong Kong has elected Leung Chun-ying as the new Chief Executive of Hong Kong; he will take up his five year term of office on 1st July.

Leung took 57.4% of the vote or 689 of the 1,132 people who voted. His closest rival, Henry Tang, took 23.8% or 285 votes and the Chairman of the Democratic Party Albert Ho took 76 votes or 6.3% of the vote.

The appointment of Leung Chun-ying still has to be approved by the authorities in Beijing.
