Likud drops back in final opinion polls

Published

The Zionist Union, a centre-left alliance between the Israeli Labor Party and Hatnuah are expected to emerge as the largest party in next Tuesday’s general election according to final opinion polls published today.

The Zionist Union is expected to win 26 seats in the 120 seat Knesset, ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party which has been dropping in the polls and is now expected to win 22 seats.

The Joint Arab List is in third place with 13 seats according to the opinion polls. The Join List includes two Israel Arab parties, the United Arab List (UAL – Ta’al) and Balad along with the non-Zionist Communist Party.

The largest party does not necessarily form the government, that goes to the party able to form a coalition in the fractured politics of Israel. No single party is going to find it easy to garner a coalition without a large amount of compromise, but the Zionist Union does appear to be edging in front.
