Local elections in both Gaza and the West Bank to be held in October

Published

The Palestinian government has announced that local elections which were to have taken place in July have now been postponed until 22 October. This is due to the recent reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah, which will allow elections on the same day in both Gaza and the West Bank for the first time since 2006.

The Central Elections Commission, which has responsibility for the elections, would have been unable to organise polls in both places in time for the July date. The Commission will now work on updating its data for the Gaza Strip in time for October.
