March 14 coalition win by election

The anti-Syrian March 14 coalition, an alliance of about 18 political parties and independents, has won the Koura by-election which took place on Sunday.

The winner, Fadi Abdallah Karam (51) a dentist, replaces fellow Lebanese Forces party member Farid Habib who died recently. He received 12,432 votes against rival Walid al-Azar of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party who took 11,152 votes according to a report in the Daily Star.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea (part of March 14) and March 14 Coalition leader, former prime minister Saad Hariri, welcomed the result as a ‘triumph for Lebanon’.

Turnout was around 47%
