Muslim Brotherhood forms new party

The Muslim Brotherhood has confirmed that it will contest the general election in September under the programme of the Freedom and Justice Party. The party will be led by Mohammed al-Mursi a Brotherhood politburo member.

The new party will contest between 45% and 50% of the seats and will not put up a candidate for the presidential election.

The Muslim Brotherhood has sought to reassure the wider community by saying that the party will be a civil and not theocratic party.
