Netanyahu calls early elections

Published

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called early parliamentary elections. Although the elections were not due to take place until October next year he has decided that there was little chance of getting the budget passed and so has decided to call the election.

No date has been set but the prime minister has indicated that the campaign should be as short as possible and not exceed three months. That means a late 2012 or early 2013 polling day.
