New PM today looks likely

Published

It looks as though the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UPCN-M) candidate, Dr Baburam Bhattarai has secured enough support to win the prime ministerial vote in the Constituent Assembly today.

The UPCN-M has 239 seats, they now have the support of the Rastriya Janamorcha with three seats, the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-ML) with nine seats and the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha ( a bloc of five Madhes based parties) with around 54 seats.

A simple majority of those present is needed in the 601 member Constituent Assembly with MPs required to attend and not allowed to abstain.
