Now the Socialists turn

Published

President Karolos Papoulias was told yesterday by the leader of Syriza, Alexis Tspiras, that he had been able to form a new government. That means that the largest party New Democracy (ND) under the leadership of Antonis Samaras and the second largest party, Syriza, have been unable to form a government.

Today it will be the turn of the third largest party and former government, the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), and their leader Evangelos Venizelos to try and form a government.

If they fail, none of the other parties have sufficient seats to form a credible government and the increasing likelihood is fresh elections.
