Opposition leader enters presidential race

Published

Etienne Tshisekedi of the liberal conservative Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) has entered the presidential election race against incumbent president, Joseph Kabila.

The UDPS boycotted the elections in 2006 and so far no other opposition candidates have put their names forward or endorsed Tshisekedi. Nominations close on Sunday for both the presidential and parliamentary elections which will be held on 28th November.

President Joseph Kabila represents the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), a centre left/social democratic party.
