Opposition questions electoral rolls

Leader of the Coordination of Democratic Forces of the Republic of Niger and former Prime Minister Hama Amadou says that there are problems with up to 23% of the voters lists for the forthcoming Parliamentary and Presidential elections due on 31st January 2011.

The Party of ousted President Mamadou Tandja does not believe there is a problem and Interior Minister, Ousmane Cisse has said that all parties were involved in the revision of the list.

A military coup last February (2010) ousted President Mamadou Tandja and promised elections within one year. A new constitution which was approved in October 2010 gives the army until 6th April to hold elections.
