Pahor comes surprise first as presidential election goes to second round

Borut Pahor, the former prime minister has taken first place in the presidential election which took place yesterday.

Pahor beat incumbent president, Danilo Türk, who came second and who will now face him in the 2nd December runoff. With most of the votes counted, Borut Pahor received 40% of the vote to Danilo Türk’s 36%. Milan Zver the government backed MEP came third with 24% and is eliminated from the second round.

Opinion polls had suggested that Türk was standing on about 42% of the vote and Pahor on around 33%.
