Published

The Tunisian Parliament approved on Wednesday the dates for the forthcoming general and presidential elections.

The general election will take place on 26th October with voting for Tunisians abroad taking place on 24th to 26th October.

The presidential election will take place on 23rd November with Tunisians living abroad voting on 21st November. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote then there will be a second round which must be held before 28th December.

These elections will be contested under the new constitution which was introduced earlier this year.

Tunisia currently functions under an interim government after the former Ennahda leadership resigned from power earlier this year in response to growing criticism from the public of its rule after two political opposition figures were assassinated within one year.
