Parliamentary election before 15th December

Published

Prime Minister Guillaume Soro has announced that there will be a parliamentary election before 15th December.

The last general election was held in 2000/2001 for the 225 seat National Assembly.

Prime Minister Soro has been the prime minister since 2007, but he resigned his position when a Constiutional Court declared the then incumbent president Laurent Gbagbo the winner in the 2010 presidential race.

Subsequently international pressure and forces loyal to Alassane Ouattara forced Gbagbo out. The internationally recognised winner, Ouattara, reappointed Soro in a parallel ceremony soon after he was sworn in to office.
