PDG wins landslide

Published

The Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) of President Ali Bongo has won a landslide victory in the general election which took place on Saturday (17th December).

In total the PDG won 114 of the 120 seats in the National Assembly or lower house. Turnout, however, was very low at 34.28%. Opposition parties, along with a number of civic groups, had boycotted the election and one opposition member suggested that the new parliament would not be recognised by them because it represented only 10% of the total population in Gabon.
