PDP lose four states, gain one

Published

The results of the governor and state assembly elections held on Tuesday are still coming in, but it looks as though the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have lost four states but gained one.

The PDP appear to have lost the governorships of Nasarawa state to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Ogun state to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Oyo state also to the ACN and Zamfara state to the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).

The PDP have picked up one state, Kano, which was previously in the hands of the ANPP.

The PDP have done well in many of the state assemblies in the North, a largely Muslim area which reacted violently to the news of the Goodluck Jonathan (PDP), a Christian from the South, winning the presidential election last week.

Many of the results are still trickling in and have to be verified before being officially declared.

Two states, Kaduna and Bauchi are voting today following very high levels of violence last week.
