PDP loses ground to opposition

Published

The party which has ruled Nigeria since 1999, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), looks set to lose ground across large areas of Nigeria following the legislative election on Saturday (9th April 2011).

Although results are still very fragmented, the Action Congress of Nigeria looks set to take the majority of seats in five of the states in the south west. In the northern states the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) is also doing well.

One major loss for the PDP is the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.
