PM asks President to call early election in July

Published

Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek met with President Borut Pahor yesterday following her loss of the leadership of the ruling Positive Slovenia (PS) party at the weekend.

Positive Slovenia is the lead party in a four party coalition and the other three parties have indicated that they will not remain in the government whilst Zoran Janković is the leader of PS. The three parties have asked for an early general election and the opposition parties are in agreement.

Therefore it was pretty inevitable that Prime Minister Bratušek should ask the President to call an early election in July. The Prime Minister has indicated that she will stay on as a caretaker Prime Minister but that she would be leaving Positive Slovenia.

The last general election was held on 4th December 2011 and the next election was scheduled for late next year.
