Published

Prime Minister Edi Rama has dismissed four of his ministers but has made clear that they have left to help with the preparations for the general election which has been scheduled for 18th June. No replacements have, as yet, been announced.

The four ministers are Saimir Tahiri, Minister of Interior; Blendi Klosi, Minister for Social Welfare and Youth; Bledi Çuçi, Minister of State for Local Governance and Ilir Beqa, Minister of Health.

The main opposition Democratic Party is currently boycotting parliament and has said that a technocrat government should be appointed to ensure free and fair elections on 18th June. Albania is currently seeking membership to the European Union which has demanded a number of economic and administrative changes including better run, less violent and more open elections.
