Poll announcement delayed

Published

Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (PEC) has announced a delay in the publishing of the provisional results for the presidential election second round runoff. They will now announce the results on Monday 4th April, four days later than the published date os 31st March.

The reason cited by the PEC is that there was a larger than expected turnout with a high incidence of fraud and irregularities.

The first round vote in November last year was highly controversial and any arguments over this round are likely to cause further turmoil for the country.
