President calls election for October

Published

President Georgi Parvanov officially signed the decree yesterday calling for a Presidential election along with Municipal elections for 23rd October 2011.

The President will complete his second and final term in office in January 2012 and will not be contesting the elections. Although the president is largely a figurehead with few powers, the municipal elections will be a test of the popularity of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria Party (GERB).
