President elected for a fifth term

President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson has been re-elected for a fifth term in office. A controversial figure, who has not been frightened to use his presidential veto on three occaisions he is against Iceland joining the European Union.

He beat his closes rival Þóra Arnórsdóttir by 52.4% to 33.8%.
